Overview – Long Beach Fire Department Announcement
Situation:
Spring of 2020 City of Long Beach Fire Department and Council commissioned California State Long Beach University to produce a short animated short to encourage individuals to not set off fireworks in the city of Long Beach, CA.
A team of students was formed to focus on this short film for the city of Long Beach. We met with the stakeholders and talked about the issues that the fireworks cause. We visited the VA Hospital where we spoke to staff and veterans of the war to understand more of their issues with the fireworks. After my team and I worked to think and problem-solve what would be effective for people to understand the issues with fireworks in Long Beach. We settled on a veteran and his dog, both largely affected by fireworks. We worked on a story, storyboards, and concept art for the short. Once we established designs and backgrounds we started animating. My role was to animate and clean up the animations. I took on two long scenes where I roughed, timed, animated, cleaned, and colored. I assisted multiple individuals with their inbetweens and worked as a co-producer to support the team overall.
The animated short aired on TVs in the Long Beach city and was posted on Youtube for viewers as well. Watch video here.
Technologies: Photoshop, Storyboard Pro, Harmony, Adobe Animate, Adobe premiere.
